REO’s test engineering department has developed REOLAB 220, a series of three-phase variable power supplies for test laboratories for high-current, low-voltage AC. The devices supply voltages of up to 10 V and currents of up to 10 kA (10,000 A), but can be customized according to customer requirements. REO UK supplies the REOLAB 220 devices to test and quality assurance laboratories in the United Kingdom.

High-current, low-voltage power supplies are used in test laboratories for various reasons. REOLAB 220 offers several advantages. The device regulates voltage fluctuations and allows for manual or automatic adjustment of current setpoints with a clean, sinusoidal output current across the entire adjustment range.

High-current AC is often used for testing fuses, cables, terminals, and other connections when testing at nominal current or voltage is difficult or not required. By reducing the voltage, the current can be increased for a given power, allowing tests to be conducted more flexibly. Since the test voltage is typically below 50 V and isolated from the mains by a step-down isolation transformer, safety is ensured.

For testing fuses for quality assurance, a given current with low deviation is often required”, explains Steve Hughes, Managing Director of REO UK. “However, with a fixed power supply, fluctuations due to temperature, load regulation, and input voltage can occur.”

If the current is not automatically adjusted to compensate for these fluctuations, lengthy burn-in tests or storage tests can be delayed or may even need to be repeated. With the REOLAB 220 devices, test laboratories can avoid these problems. REO’s product range can be operated with a setpoint or fixed output value using a potentiometer or even via a fieldbus. Regardless of load or input conditions, regulation is then achieved through this setting .

REO UK can supply either the devices themselves or a complete and turnkey package for integration into a quality assurance system. Our selection is not limited to high-current AC. High voltages of up to 8 kV with a power limit of 1 MVA or 1000 kW can also be provided for DC systems.
